Oct. 11th, 2010 11:51 pmLong day, I just got home at 11:30.
I actually planned out my day to the hour to fit everything in and I followed the said plan! Yay. I put a little gold star in my planner to mark the occasion.
I went to campus early since I had a follow-up doctor’s appointment, which was short, and then I went to the library where I graded and graded for a while. They are improving but one kid still doesn’t understand what should be in a paragraph. I will send him down to free tutoring because otherwise he won’t pass the class. I think he is lazy too; he did not put too much effort into this paper.
I was a good child and got Mediterranean for lunch – a falafel platter which included hummus and pita and salad. I wanted something lighter since I knew I was going to Manhattan for dinner for a larger meal. I finished the National Geographic article on Greenland with lunch. (It was in the June issue that I didn’t get to) Greenland sounds very depressing. They have 56,000 people today and, while they hunt and fish, they still have to import most of their food. And there is frost in the summer. The article was about the impact of global warming on this country since the arctic is where the impact of global warming is felt the most. Their weather is getting unpredictable and it is affecting the fishing. On the other hand, some are excited since some oil reserves can open up. Either way, life in Greenland just sounds very harsh.
In the afternoon, I wrote the midterm for my classes for this week and then I worked on my own stuff. Then I left to catch the train to the city and I finished grading my remaining quota of papers for the day. Why do they mess with the font and still expect to pass? I’m not stupid.
By 6:15 I got to the city and started to relax my brain and put it in non-work mode. I met Bear in the train station. (He had his giant umbrella with him and I didn’t even realize there was a rain forecast. Luckily most of the rain passed when we were at the restaurant and I only got caught for a tiny bit when I got off the bus near my house.) We had a really nice walk to the Chinese/Indian restaurant that Marianna picked out. Since it was her birthday party, she got to choose everything. It was a really nice restaurant. We got lots of food for the table to share. The duck was really good, and so were the noodles. And the chocolate cake was wonderful. Splitting deserts always makes me enjoy them more and less guilty about indulging, although we got four deserts for eight people. Marianna liked the necklace I got her (I ordered it from Novica, it was crafted in Thailand). Bear and I left at 10 since we both have to work tomorrow and it is a long trip for each of us.
This was a long and productive day and I get to reward myself with a new “House” episode tomorrow which Papa was supposed to tape for me.
Oh, and I got two more gold President coins to add to my coin collection - Fillmore and Pierce.
