Jul. 29th, 2010 11:00 pmDay 1 of New Hampshire trip.
Today was mostly a travel day. Yeva picked me up at10:20, so we could avoid morning traffic and we only got to the Lake region at 7pm with all the stops for lunch and dinner. I was ready at 9 but I know that for Yeva time is relative. The traveling actually went really smoothly. There wasn’t a lot of traffic and Yeva avoided a massive travel delay due to accident with a church bus next to George Washington bridge.
We met up with Bear, Marianna and Adama at around 12:30 at a rest stop in Connecticut and had a picnic lunch at one of the tables. I brought my little Swiss army nice and we had sandwiches with bread and turkey and tomatoes and cucumbers. Then we switched cars as I got into Bear’s car and Marianna and Adama transferred into Yeva’s car.
Then it was a lot of smooth, non-trafficy traveling to Manchester, New Hampshire where Yeva wanted to stop by for dinner at a sea food diner she found online. The road is pretty much the same as going to Boston and it is actually very familiar. I’ve never been in New Hampshire before and I was comparing the scenery to my trip to Vermont last year. The mountains certainly look different and so did the foliage.
At the seafood diner, I got crab cakes with baked potato, a salad and ice-tea. The ice-tea had a ridiculous amount of sugar in it. Yeva got lobster to our general amusement. Before we ate, Bear and I walked a bit in the plaza to stretch out legs a bit.
We drove another hour to get to the Lakes and got to our hotel at about 7:30pm. Close to there, Bear and I stopped at a gas station where I really needed to use the restroom and also we needed to pick up milk for breakfast.
The hotel was nice and fancy and not something I could afford on regular basis, especially not individual rooms. But we rented a cottage that goes with the hotel complex which is much more affordable for a group. We still get to use all the amenities of the hotel like the pool and the weight room but it is cheaper. The cottage had a living room with a fireplace and a flatscreen TV and a big window showing the lake. There is a fully stocked kitchen and a little balcony to enjoy the sun. Downstairs was the queen size room and a room with bunk beds. The only bathroom on the floor was in the room with the queen bed which was not that comfortable for Yeva who was staying in the bunk bed room. There was a staircase off the kitchen that led upstairs to a huge room with a king size bed and our own bathroom and another TV. There was a huge window with a lake view there too. Since I found the place and the trip was in honor of my and Bear’s 30th b-day, we took that fancy room. We also decided that in fairness we won’t split the cost of the cottage but pro-rated it so that Bear and I would pay a bit more and Yeva would pay least.

Our room had the most amazing view. Just gorgeous. And the whole place was just nice and fancy.

After we unpacked we all went to the hotel indoor pool/Jacuzzi area. I think it is the first time I went swimming this summer. I was late enough in the evening so it was only the five of us. As we walked back to our place, there was this big moon over the lake and it was just amazing.

As we got back to the cottage, I caught the end of SYTYCD Top 5 (6) elimination. Billy and Jose were sent home. I feel sad about Billy, but it was definitely time for Jose to go.
Yeva fretted a bit over a bug she saw which she thought might be a bed bug. I turned on my computer and the internet to check and reassure her that the bug was just an ordinary bug.
Our bed was just so soft and wonderful and the shower had good pressure too. So far the trip has started really well.
