Mar. 14th, 2010 11:00 pmHBO premiered its new miniseries “Pacific” today about the Pacific theater of war in WWII. It is produced by Spielberg and Hanks. I haven’t seen “Band of Brothers” (my dad loves it) but I figure I’d give it a chance. The miniseries is based on three main marines, two of whom wrote their memoirs about the war and it tries to be fairly accurate. The emphasis in this show is internal consequences of war on these young boys and their ability to go home and make a life afterwards. HBO helpfully had a few special features that profiles the soldiers since most of the faces look the same to me, all muddied up. I did like the first episode enough to watch more, although the violence is a bit graphic at times, but then real war would be worse, I imagine.
