Some links:

This link echos some of my views on Taylor Swift – I always roll my eyes when her songs play on the radio, the lyrics are some stupid and ridiculous. Very immature and cliché.

Women’s last stand - a response to a Superbowl commercial.

Genetic testing reducing some childhood diseases . We discussed this kind of topic in class last semester and I wish I could assign this article to my students too.

I got “Dances with Wolves” from Netflix and watched Part 1 today. I’ve seen this movie a long time ago, sometime in high school, when I was working through my Oscar list (I’ve seen every single movie that ever won an Oscar). I only remembered select bits of the movie, I know I liked it but I never felt the need to see it again. All the comments on “Avatar” just pointed out that both movies share the same story, really, and made me want to kind of rewatch it. Plus, after watching “Battlestar Galactica” I wanted to see Mary McDonnell in that earlier role since I gained a whole new appreciation for her acting. I’m glad I am rewatching this movie. I think I like it more now as an adult and I appreciate the calmness of it and broad, sweeping strokes and characterizations. And as an adult it appeals to me more. I also really like that Kevin Costner’s main character even after getting to know the Indians and liking them, still found some of their customs uncomfortable and morally disturbing – because he is from a different culture and comes to understand this and judge them on their own merits. I found myself getting drawn to the world in the movie. And there were many handsome Indian men to look at, as a bonus. And Mary McDonnell rocked.
