One thing we need to do every year is taxes and in my family we don’t procrastinate on this. As soon as all paperwork arrives in the mail, we make an appointment with our Tax Guy in Brooklyn. Tax Guy is only in New York for tax season, he spends the rest of the year in Florida. We came to him on a recommendation and he has been doing my taxes for about a decade, pretty much as long as I needed to do taxes. I really prefer to just pay him $100 and get it all done in twenty minutes than to think about taxes and forms and mailings. So this is what I was doing today and I’m glad not to have to think about it anymore.

We also stopped by my grandfather’s place to drive him to visit my grandmother. There wasn’t much snow this weekend but there was still a light coating that frozen and made it inadvisable for old people to walk on. I think she will be going home soon.

I finished all the cross-stitch stitches and will embark on the back-stitching the highlights next week. This lighthouse project is almost done. I only do this on weekends and not on every one, so it is taking me a bit long. Still I will have it done soon.

I got “In the Loop” since it was nominated for Best Screenplay for the Oscars. It is a British political satire comedy filmed in London and Washington and I must say – hee. Go British humor and sharp dialogue (and lots and lots of inventive cursing). The plot is quite clever and fun and the acting was terrific too.

I don’t watch the Superbowl, especially because I don’t know the rules of football and it all baffles me – I have never seen a football game in my life (soccer – yes, but not American football). What I do like is the ease with which I can go online and watch all the commercial at Hulu on the same night. So I get to enjoy the commercials without sitting through the games. I did notice all the “masculinity” being threatened messages but sports have always been targeted to guys. I usually don’t take these things too seriously. There are always beer commercials and scantily clad women in them every year. Commercials I really enjoyed: Dove soap for men; VW punch; “Hotel Hell Vacation”, especially hotel charges; Simpson’s coke one; Dorridos with the dog collar. Not too many. “Robin Hood” trailer looked stupid.
