16 Shevat/31 January, 2010
Jan. 31st, 2010 11:00 pmI stayed in bed a bit late and read my Sookie book. While I like spending time in Bear’s house, it always gives me allergies which sometimes make me feel unsteady/lightheaded and I needed to sleep in a bit from the evening before. Besides, he likes to work out in the morning and therefore eats breakfast a bit late. Usually I make my breakfast before him, but today I waited a bit. Besides, it is Sunday and Sunday often calls for lazy mornings.
After our late breakfast we had to go on Bear’s tire adventure and inadvertent shopping. Bear’s tire stayed inflated after his Dad pumped some air into it, but it still needed to be looked at and the only place open on Sundays was a auto repair garage in Sear/mall. So we drove down there and while they worked on the car we ended up “shopping.” Well, the garage was right next to men’s section and Bear figured he can get more jeans while they were on sale. Now, I hate clothes shopping. Unless I have something specific I need, going to mall just deadens my brain. I find whole browsing for clothes or shoes very, very boring. And even when I need something specific, I don’t look forward to shopping. I’m missing some kind of girl gene/socially constructed need for women to browse clothing stores. But we did need to kill time and at least Bear found my whining about shopping amusing. And I did have a Gameboy on which I could play “Tetris” while Bear tried on jeans in our social reversal of gender roles. Finally, after an hour we made our way to a bookstore, where I’m much more happy to browse and shop. And then the tire was fixed and we went back to his house to have lunch and drive back to my house.
On the way home we stopping by my grandmother’s. My grandfather was there too, which was nice. We stayed briefly and my grandmother had to show off Bear to her neighbor which I’m sure was embarrassing for him.
We watched Planet Earth’s “Ice Worlds” to finish up the DVD disk. Mostly, of course, it were polar bears and penguins, and I saw some of those stories in other incarnations. But it was still pretty to see. It was fun watching whales create a bubble net to eat. I actually liked the end where we see the conditions in which the cameramen had to live in.
PBS’s was showing “Emma” Part 3 tonight. This is a new British version and I’m actually enjoying it. I never read “Emma” (“Mansfield Park” and “Emma” are two Austen novel’s I haven’t read yet) but I’ve seen other adaptations and I like the actors in this one.
