A New Year sounds like a good place to start. Although, I’ve never particularly celebrated this holiday and I didn’t know about it until I came to America and the Jewish Center had a Rosh Hashana gathering with apples, honey and a shofar, I figure I need a fresh start. I need to get my focus back and not to sink back in depression of any kind. Public accounting of a new year and seeing it as a way to a new start might just do the trick of keeping this up for more than a week. Well, one can hope. So this is my new resolutions for how many days a lunar year actually lasts.

• Write every day to account for the time.

• No computer fanfic (it is crack that I use to escape from things I should be focusing on)

• Study Biblical Hebrew (I finally learned Hebrew letters last year and there is a great free ITunes class to help too. I don’t want to speak Hebrew, I just want to read it, hence biblical Hebrew instead of modern one. There are similarities, of course. But one thing at a time)

• Read the five books of the Torah. (Again, something I always mean to do but I always got bored half way through the Genesis. I’m trying to read 5 chapters at night, which is not a lot, and might help me persevere this time. I already discovered that God created the animals in a roughly evolutionary order – from reptilians and amphibians to mammals last. Also, Noah is a jerk for venting his anger at his son Ham after the latter walked in on him when Noah was naked and wasted in his tent. Noah cursed Ham’s son instead of Ham, which is a frelled up thing to do. I still remember reading Paul Freedman “Images of Peasants” book and how that whole curse was used to justify various ugly things. )

• Finish Paradise Lost. (I’m more of a third way through, and I want to finally finish the whole thing)

• And most important one – finish my dissertation and graduate in May. My main goal of the year. (I also have to do a conference and look for a job, but those are kind of outgrowth of other things.)

So that is my plan. Now I just have to keep it up.

Highlights of the day: cross stitching, picking up "World War Z" in the library and getting Drusilla comic, rollerblading for 30 min, finishing Season One of “Battlestar Gallactica” with Papa. He keeps asking me questions he really doesn’t want answers to about the characters and motivations, just to annoy me. I threaten to reveal identities of the Cylons. Good times. (On a side note, the “behind the scenes” featurette tried way too hard to say how their show is not like a regular Sci-fi show, they are more ‘realistic’ and ‘gritty’ unlike any sci-fi show ever. Because no sci-fi show ever tried to use sci-fi forum to tell a modern story or to explore what might happen. And of course, when your show airs on a sci-fi channel you would have much luck attracting people who don’t like sci-fi in some way. Note to self: sarcasm doesn’t work on paper.)

Goal for today: to send in the book review, which was written a month ago. I need to just let it go. I’m insecure about my writing and I keep telling myself that I like most of the stuff I wrote for the last seven years.
