Today the athletic director of the plagiarism student contacted me to talk about the situation. The student wants to meet with me again. I told him I would meet him on Thursday at the athletic director’s office. I really don’t want to meet with him alone. I also need to talk to Prof. S. to find out the department stance to have more ammunition. Hassle and the student won’t see it as his fault that he put his football scholarship in jeopardy. And while I have no problem with him giving this paper another shot, I do have a problem of withdrawing a complaint from Academic Honesty Committee.
In a positive student news today, one of my A students, who I asked to send me a copy of her excellent Marco Polo paper, so that I can show that to my other students, included a note in her email that told me how much she liked the class and that she never enjoyed history before. This semester, having so many students who are there because they had to be, this means a lot. This is what we teach for.
Papa and I watched the fourth episode of Game of Thrones today. I don’t think I want to write a review. It was fine – a bit too many long speeches that were set up scene. It continues to be an ok show that I don’t mind watching but I don’t feel compelled to watch.
Cross-stitch: I wanted to finish the giraffe so I ended up stitching for two hours. I used orange brown, dark gold, gold, dark pink, and pink colors. And giraffe is done. I prefer stitching on Aida cloth since then all the stitches are nice and even and on the cloth they are never as neat. I know it wouldn’t matter in the larger scheme of things. Still cloth is tricky.

11. What features do you think Dreamwidth should have that it doesn't currently?
I’m not sure. I’m happy with what it has but I always like new stuff DW comes up with like triangle cuts.
12. What do you consider the five most "telling" interests from the list on your profile? Why?
I should probably update that but from what I have today:
a. books – I can’t picture myself without reading and books, although I haven’t read an actual book lately. I just had no time and when I have time to read, I read fanfic or other internet stuff. I am reading “Lavinia” by Le Guin and I will finish that as soon as my semester ends this week. Then I have book plans for the summer. A long list. Books and reading always defined me since I always read for fun as does Papa and my grandfather.
b. history – I am a historian, at least by training, although I’m not sure if I’ll stick to it. But I will always be a historian no matter what I’d do. I had my first history class in 5th grade (this was still in Belarus) and I had the most awesome history teacher for 5th and 6th grade. I always loved this subject above all others and I was good at all subjects, really. And no matter how good I was at math, history is my love. In particular, European history and medieval England in particular. I did like teaching Global history this semester and learning new things on the way.
c. cross-stitch – my hobby since 1999 right after my grandmother died. She was my favorite person in the whole world and I think I picked this up because I remember her cross stitching. So a week after she died, when my parents and my cousin were visiting me in college, we ended up at a craft store and I picked up a little starter kit of a little kitty. That winter I made my first big project that took a year. I’ve made three other big painting size ones and lots of little projects and now I’m making a second blanket. While sometimes I take a break, this is a hobby I always come back to. It allows me to be artistic without having any actual artistic talent. But organizing and following directions and patience I’m good at.

d. sci-fi – my genre of choice. When I was little, I read lots of Bulychev, a famous Russia sci-fi writer. And it just ended up one of my favorite genres. I watch a lot of TV and movies. Star Trek: TNG was one of the first shows I really followed in reruns – I taped all episode off late night. I’m not into horror and fantasy is hit and miss for me, but I’d take sci-fi any day. Doesn’t mean I like everything – I really didn’t like “Dune” but I’m a proud sci-fi geek.
e. TV – I love TV. Especially serialized storytelling. And great storytelling. Having internet is great at sharing that TV love and the ability to talk about my interests. I love sharing TV and recommendations with friends. Cable and internet and Netflix allows me to watch new shows all the time. And the DVD format was made for me. I think I actually prefer to watch it all at once. Last summer I watched all of “Highlander” because it was on Netflix and it was great just to watch a few episodes every night. I don’t watch reality shows that much (SYTYCD is a big exception!). It is all about TV shows for me. Favorites over the years: Star Trek: TNG, Star Trek: Voyager, Dawson’s Creek, Quantum Leap, Buffy, Angel, Farscape, Dollhouse, House, Friends, Community, Rome, Highlander, Brothers and Sisters, True Blood, Queer as Folk UK and others I can’t immediately think of right now.
