Feb. 22nd, 2011 10:53 pmGrading in the morning – I got a lot done actually and my brain feels strangely fine. My second class has many more “B”s and a fewer ones who failed this paper. Interesting. Two students failed because they didn’t change anything from their rough drafts. I had a bit of a talk with them. They should have at least paid attention to my comments. Really, students, don’t antagonize your teachers.
Still with the cold and it was interesting to go teach with it. I was taking Tylenol Cold all day to help with the symptoms. Today’s classes’ weren’t too bad but by the middle of the second class all the talking sent me into a coughing fits – good thing for cough drops. I don’t know if I’ll be able to do two lectures tomorrow –hopefully my throat will be better. I’ll just have to see tomorrow. I’m planning to go to Bear’s house on Thursday night – we have a whole weekend planned, including “Cabaret” in a local theater so I better be ok by then.
In class today I was teaching how to peer review better by giving my students samples of these two rough drafts. They can pick up when other’s papers don’t make sense but it is hard for them to this for themselves.
In the evening I got ready for my Rome lecture, given that I will feel up for it – I have it set from previous times I taught it, except I added the Silk Road from “Silk Road” book to it and made a Powerpoint presentation. I’m using two clips tomorrow. I will start with “What Have the Romans Ever Done for Us” from “Monty Python’s Life of Brian” and Julius Caesar assassination scene from the first season of HBO’s “Rome” How I love that show. I’m happy I own it on DVD and now I might be tempted to rewatch it.
