Monday, March 21, 2016; letter meme

It doesn't really feel like spring with cold temperatures and a winter coat but at least it didn't snow as much as it could have. In fact it all melted by morning. The rest of the week is going to be warmer so that's good.

Last week I had Spring Break. It was really nice not to have to go into work. I still had grading and actually got through a little more than half, which is pretty good for Spring Break. I spent most of the week at my parent's house with Tanya, which is not very conducive to doing work. We didn't do anything exciting, it was mostly home and playground and occasional trip to a story, but it was still good to do it somewhere else.

On Tuesday, Bear and I went to our accountant to do our taxes in the morning, and then Bear left for half a week since his work sessions have started and my Mom picked Tanya and I up until Saturday. From now until beginning of June he will have weeks when he has to work very late so it makes sense for him to stay with his parents, just twenty minutes away from his work, rather than drive all the way back to Brooklyn. Those week I and Tanya often go stay with my parents. On the upshot, he will have Monday's off and can watch Tanya then, so less work for my Mom. This week is a regular week for both of us except for Purim and Easter, which will mean baking and some travel.

I still have tons of grading to catch up on but I wanted to do a meme. I also want to keep reading Hardy's "Tess of the d'Urbervilles" which is surprising me. I'm really into it. It's my Hardy novel for the year and I'm really glad I picked it. But alas, work beckons.

The letter meme that's been going around. [personal profile] hamsterwoman gave me the letter D:

Something I hate: drains, specifically my kitchen sink right now. Disasters are pretty terrible too! and Deviousness. Many of Dickens' books.

Something I love: desert - I love sugar and desert is always fun. Yummy. Also Domesticity - I love being a homebody. DVDs - TV and Movies are fun. Like "Downton Abbey" or "Dollhouse" I don't have a large collection but it's there. Russian band DDT. Darren Criss - he's dreamy. Dresden Files series. Mr. Darcy. Dumas.

Somewhere I've been: Dominican Republic - first time. when I was 15 with my parents for our first real vacation since coming to US. It was wonderous. Second time when I was 33 with Bear, I was already pregnant but this was right before morning sickness kicked in. So I got to enjoy it despite first trimester crappiness. Disney World - Bear and I did an Orlando vacation five years ago with most focus on Universal Studios and Harry Potter World. But we spent a day in Disney World, the Magic Kingdom and it really was magic and a lot of fun. I actually enjoyed the rollercoasters, which doesn't often happens.

Somewhere I'd like to go: Disney World - I want to see more of it. And maybe Disney Land too. It might be fun to visit Delhi or Dublin or Durham Cathedral. (I had to look up a list of cities that begin with D, my brain is too tired)

Someone I know: For some reason department secretaries often have D names - Donna, in Local College, where I used to work, and Dawn, in my Uni grad program. My new friend Dasha, who is a friend of a friend but we really click when we see each other. Three of my students this semester - Dakota, Dimitri and Diana. A fellow teacher - also Donna.

Movie I love: Looking at my DVD shelf - "Dirty Dancing" - probably my favorite movie, "Dan in Real Life" - a surprising favorite for me, "Dzhentelmeny Udachi (Gentlemen of Fortune)" - a Russian classic, still hysterical, and "D'Artagnan and the Three Musketeers" (Russian Musical) - a childhood favorite.

(If you want to play, comment to that effect and I'll give you a letter of your own.)
