18 Cheshvan/5 November, 2009

This morning I managed to grade two papers before I had to leave for the airport. I also checked-in online and paid only $15 to check in a bag instead of airport $30. Then at the airport I still needed a person to take the bag because the stupid self booth does not account for variation and wanted to charge me again.

I had to take an airtran to a different terminal and wait a long time for security walk through. But once I got near the gate I saw a Kind of Famous Professor who I know through conferences and a lecture and lunch at University a few years ago. She is always very helpful and even counseled me on palpitations once, which was really cool of her. We chatted for a bit but I tried not to bother her too much and got a ridiculously expensive lunch instead. About ten minutes before boarding Advisor showed up too, which was good. Now I knew two people on our small plane.

The plane seated 50 people and had one seat on one side and two on the other. It was as tall as my head and as wide as my height. But the ride was pretty smooth and the skies were sunny. We had a really funny guy as a flight attendant and he kept cracking jokes as he went through all instructions and really made the atmosphere on the plane jolly. He also had the most ridiculous blue eyes, and was barely out of high school. I did enjoy flying right above pretty fluffy white clouds at one point, there was a nice pattern. I distracted myself on the plane by grading two more papers. The flight over Kentucky itself was also pretty. It looks like a hilly and mostly flat ground with lots of rivelets and woods. Not many tall buildings. I don’t like flying that much but there are a few things I can appreciate about while I’m flying.

By the time we got to the airport here, my ears as usual couldn’t hear and soon my head got heavy. But at least on the plane I felt pretty good, although sometimes nervous. I got my bag pretty fast and shared a cab with two other women attending the conference. I left Advisor and Kind of Famous Professor to catch up at the gate because I really did not want to bug anyone and
I don’t want to be annoying. After I settled in a nice hotel room and realized just how tired the trip made me, I decided to just take a bit of a walk to get oriented and to get some dinner. There is Borders across the street, which is awesome and a whole big section of pubs and entertainment. I also walked to Main Street and a nice park with the view of Indiana over Ohio River. (I find that combination amusing). I also found a gift shop where I got a few horse related magnets for parents and some postcards. They are obsessed with horses here. I also got dinner of bourbon chicken and rice which was ok. I took it home to the hotel with me; the girl behind the counter liked my accent. Then I watched TV and paid for internet for a day. I won’t buy internet every day but I figure every other day might be nice. My head still feels a bit off from flying so I’m going to go sleep a bit early. Tomorrow Important Conference starts pretty early. I am happy to get out of the house but it is a bit weird to be by myself. I’m sure I’ll be happy to go home on Sunday.

No Deuteronomy this weekend, my brain is too tired and there is much to do.

Because Yankees won the World Series yesterday (Yay!), they didn’t need to play a game today so we got a new episode of Bones. Bones S5E6. The episode was really stupid. It was about a guy who worked on a chicken farm and really all that moralizing was not necessary. Subplots with Angela wanting to save a piglet and kissing Wendell the student were also silly. I couldn’t pay attention too much and wanted to nap instead. Show, why do you have to be so uneven and follow great episodes with crappy ones?
