Now that the semester is over - it was officially over on Friday, when I turned in my grades to Local College online (it was over for the writing classes at University the Friday before, on May 9 and then it was just a week of final paper grading and exams and not really going in to campus) - I am going to try to get back into writing here. It just been a lot of work and too much to do in the last few months.
But today, I'm just relaxing all day at my in-laws house. I'm here for a week while Bear is working and my parents are in Aruba until May 28th. Bear is in meeting season at work for a few more weeks which usually means he stays over his parents' from Tuesday to Saturday to drive less and his work ends at 11pm sometimes. I didn't really want to be home by myself and coming to my in-laws in Long Island usually feels like a vacation with their lovely back yard.
So I'm here for a week with my computer and my books and I just want to relax and read and catch up on writing of all kinds. Plus, I got very dizzy Sunday to Monday night a week ago, which lasted until the next day (I had to wake Bear up in the middle of the night just to use the restroom and I didn't go in for my final day at Local College and got another person to proctor my exams - luckily everything was prepared at school), so I really don't want to be by myself at night in case it happens again. I am drinking a lot more water but still.
So today, Bear only had to go in to work at noon - so we had a nice breakfast together and then drove to Baby R Us and to Michael's for a little outing. Bear wanted to see some car seats and attachable strollers in person and not just online. The saleswoman was super helpful and even brought some car seats to the car for us to see how it would fit. Bear's car is pretty tiny so that was a concern. "Car Seat" is his purchase to make - I don't really care which one he gets, as long as I figure out how to use it but he is leaning toward Greco, which is super easy to use.
I pretty much spent all the afternoon after we got back, other than eating lunch with in-laws, sitting on the rocker bench in the backyard, enjoying the sunshine and reading The Secret Garden . It is so nice outside - 70F with no humidity and nice soothing wind. Perfect weather to read that book by. I've never read The Secret Garden before. I came to America when I was almost 13, so it wasn't on my radar. I've heard of it, of course, and I think I saw the movie, I'm not sure, but I just never read it. I did download it to my Kindle a while ago, since it was free and it was just sitting there, and I kind of, sort of, new some of the plot. A few days ago, I was bored with the new historical fiction book I'm reading Hild that I got for Christmas, so I wanted to read something else and looking through Kindle I thought, why not. Today I finished it, reading over 75% of the whole book since I just didn't want to stop.
And for my mood and for this time of year, it was just a perfect wonderful book. It was magical and it is just about a garden and how it makes things better. But it just makes you feel all positive and lovely and looking at possibilities. I've been a bit anxious the last couple of days, over thinking, and worrying too much, so it was nice to be reminded of lovely things and that I need to relax too. I can really see now why this book is so beloved.
And it felt really good, just to spend most of the day, reading a book.
