Today was pretty much a Harry Potter day since Bear came over and we went to see the movie. It usually takes me a bit to process everything.
This morning I watched some more old Grey’s Anatomy episode as background viewing. And before and after the movie, Bear and I went to Toys R Us since he had to get charity Christmas presents for some kids so he needed to buy some superhero action figures. I ended up with a polar bear measuring tape. But today was about Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows Part 1.
I liked the movie. I don’t think it is my favorite of all of them but I enjoyed it and it was great to see my favorite scenes on screen. I always clearly distinguish between books and movies and I don’t mind if something is left out or added. Anyway, here are some of my rambling thoughts.
The three brothers animation is now my second favorite scene in the whole franchise, right behind the possession scene in movie 5 which remains my favorite scene.
I actually like the camping scenes quite a lot, especially acting by Radcliffe and Watson. These scenes really captured the mood of being on the run and having no one to turn to and having no idea what to do next. And the added dance scene was very lovely. I liked the dorky dancing.
And I really loved the Ministry scenes with all creepy Nazi parallels, and in the book I read that too fast and it wasn’t my favorite section. The actors who played Harry, Ron and Hermione as polyjuiced ministry employers were really wonderful, they got the mannerisms perfectly. And the scene with the toilets was hysterical.
There was a lot of humor here as usual.
The movie did not feel finished since it is Part 1 and I do wish there was more soon.
I like that when they were escaping the wedding Harry’s first concern was Ginny.
Snape billowing! Next movie will have more Snape but I don’t know how I’m going to watch him die. I could barely get through that scene in the book; I had to make myself read it.
Harry and Draco fans certainly have nice scenes for themselves here. Lucius was so nicely unhinged. And Voldemort was much more threatening in the Manor than usual.
Bathilda/Nagini scene was nice and creepy like it was in the books. I like how harry is speaking parselmouth with her without even realizing it.
While I loved Half-Blood Prince for its mood and had to watch it twice in the movie theater, I like this movie too. Both Dan Radcliff and Rupert Grint were so obviously men in this movie that it was a bit weird. Definitely not kids in any way anymore. The acting was excellent.
